Return

I spent a few days at the beach with my mom and sister last week. This is the view off our balcony. It was a quick trip but wonderful nonetheless. I've been craving the sight and sound of the ocean...its vastness and roaring surf. I took a few long walks and sat on the balcony for hours, just soaking it all in. My sister and I went down to the game room one night and she destroyed me in a Ms. Pac-Man showdown. So, I bought her a drink at the bar. We've been coming to this hotel for a very long time. The game room, swimming pool, and general layout of the hotel are all so familiar. My mom is now in a wheelchair and getting around is so difficult for her. But fortunately, she felt comfortable with my sister and I helping her. I slept on the sofa in the hotel room and each night the moon fell directly on my face as I fell asleep.

Watching the sun set on the ocean is so awe-inspiring, as cliché as that sounds. Often, living in the city means limited skyscapes and although I easily manage to soak in the beauty of nature that does exist in the city, the ocean is a pretty amazing backyard to have.

The day after we got home from the beach, my sister got married. It was an evening reception with dinner and a cocktail hour and desert. She and her now husband made such a party out of the event, it was so much fun. We ate and drank a lot and I enjoyed getting to know his family and the people my sister works with. I haven't been to a wedding in quite awhile and forgot how much fun they are. I am so happy for my sister. Although autumn is sneaking up on us early this year (my very favorite season!), I think we still have a few barbecue weekends left and I'm looking forward to those! And although I just returned from the beach and my sister's wedding...I can't help but feel that I should be preparing for a trip to Paris as I did last autumn.
